David Cano, 59

| February 15, 2021 12:00 AM

On Feb. 6, 2021, David Cano, 59 years old, took his last ride, doing what he loved, leading the way to the top of the mountain.

He was born in California, the son of Mary Holman and David Cano, before moving to Kalispell in 1970.

David graduated from Flathead High School in 1979 and attended college for a couple of years. He worked in his father’s auto body shop and at the airport fueling and working on airplanes, prior to branching out on his own and starting his own business.

He married Janelle, the love of his life, before becoming the proud father to his son, Cole and daughters, Mia and Toree.

David was an extraordinary man, who made friends with everyone and anyone he came across. As his young granddaughter said, “my grandpa was famous, he knew EVERYONE … but my grandma, not so much. She only knows half of all the people!”

David was an avid fisherman, hunter, snowmobiler and outdoorsman. He was not just good at everything he did, but exceptional. Whether he worked on your car, your airplane, your upholstery, or your breakfast, he always did it right the first time. However, aside from his many talents, he was best at loving and taking care of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, three children, four grandchildren, mother, stepfather, two sisters, two nieces, cherished in-laws, precious dogs, Kobuk, Skeena, Edwhyn, and BoDuke, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless “best” friends.

David was preceded in death by his father, David, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

We lost a great man on that mountain and our lives will never be the same. David made the world a better place, leaving us with so many wonderful memories and a special place in our hearts. He was our hero.

A celebration of life is being planned, with details to follow. Many thanks to Darlington Cremation and Burial Services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Flathead Snowmobile Association, P.O. Box 5041, Kalispell, MT 59903.
