Bluehawks excel at Western B/C; Eureka 7th
CUT BANK — Behind three individual champions, including an epic final from Trae Thilmony, the Thompson Falls-Noxon wrestling team finished fifth at the 24-team Western B/C Divisional that concluded Saturday.
Thilmony (132 pounds), Eli Ratliff (145) and Dane Chojnacky (182) all won their weight classes, and Thilmony’s title bout with Eureka’s Gunnar Smith went to overtime.
The Bluehawk junior prevailed, 12-10, in a battle of state champions; Thilmony won at 120 last season while Smith won at 126. Smith is a three-time state champ.
Eureka was seventh in the team race with 122.5 points, getting individual titles from Kyle Durden at 126 Durden was second at state last year at 132 pounds.
The Lions put six wrestlers in next week’s State B-C tournament in Shelby beginning Friday.
Bigfork, 11th with 101 points, qualified seven wrestlers. Thompson Falls had five qualify.
Boulder won the team title with 175 points and Whitehall was second, followed by host Cut Bank.
