Man dead following officer-involved shooting in Kalispell
A man was shot and killed by a Kalispell Police officer Friday night following a disturbance in the area of Cemetery Road and U.S. 93 South in Kalispell.
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance with a weapon at about 10 p.m. and began searching for a suspect vehicle reported to be intentionally ramming other vehicles in the area, according to a press release from the Kalispell Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle, which was unoccupied. Officers then split up to search for the suspect on foot.
One officer entered a business in that area, and once inside, was confronted by the suspect, who had armed himself with an object, the press release stated. No details were provided about the object the suspect was wielding.
The suspect reportedly attacked the officer, who fatally shot the male suspect.
Officers on scene provided medical attention to the man, who was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
During the course of the incident an uninvolved bystander was wounded, the police department clarified in a later press release. That person was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The press release did not state how the person was wounded.
The department added that “there is not believed to be any further danger to the public.”
The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The man’s identity is being withheld pending further investigation and family notification.
