Libby rally comes up short

LIBBY — The Libby Loggers dropped its Class A boys basketball opener 50-47 to Frenchtown on Saturday despite a comeback attempt in the fourth quarter.

Jay Beagle drained two 3-pointers and Caden Williams scored seven points in the fourth for the Loggers, who trailed 35-27 after three frames. Williams led Libby with 12 points. TJ Anderson sank four free throws for the Loggers.

At the half, Libby trailed 27-14.

Frenchtown’s Brandon Finley led all scorers with 26 points, including three 3-pointers. He was 5-for-6 at the free throw line. Devin Shelton added 15 points and matched Finley’s mark in free throws.

Cormac Benn scored 15 points and Bigfork ran out to a 25-12 first-quarter lead en route to the non-conference boys’ basketball win.

Benn, Nick Walker and Isak Epperly all scored six points in the opening period; in the third Walker Fisher hit two 3-pointers – and completed a 4-point play – as the Vikings (1-0) took a commanding 63-39 lead.

Josh Venman scored a game-high 17 for Stillwater Christian (4-2).

Josh Venman scored 20 second-half points to help Stillwater Christian hold off Great Falls Home School in MCAA play Friday.

Venman ended up with 29 points. Blake Prewitt added 10.
