Last month was the fourth hottest June on record in Kalispell, thanks in large part to the extreme heat wave that roasted the region the final week of the month.

According to climate statistics from the National Weather Service in Missoula, the average temperature in June for Kalispell was 63.9 degrees, which is 6.3 degree above normal.

The average high was 79.8, or 8.6 degrees higher than normal.

Two days reached triple digits and set daily record highs — June 29 thermometers hit 101 and June 30 they climbed to 100.

The coldest day was June 11 when the low dipped to 34.

June was slightly drier than normal. About 2 inches of rain was accounted for in Kalispell, which is 0.86 inches below normal. The wettest day was June 10 when 0.89 inches was recorded.

July precipitation already is trending below average in Kalispell, but a chance of showers will return to the forecast Wednesday afternoon as a cold front moves through the region.

The slight cool-down will last through Friday before temperatures warm back into the 90s by the weekend.
