GREAT FALLS — Max Holden threw a first game shutout as the Kalispell Lakers defeated the host Great Falls Chargers on Sunday.

Holden struck out five Great Falls batters, allowed five hits and had no runs over seven innings. Great Falls’ pitchers also had a strong outing, as they struck out eight Kalispell batters.

The Lakers got their run in the first inning when Danny Kernan singled on the first pitch of his at-bat to score one run.

The Lakers fell, 16-6 in the nightcap, however.

They led 6-5 after three innings, but Great Falls scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth, then added six more in the fifth.

Kernan led Kalispell at the plate, batting 2-for-3 with a triple. Grady Drish and Kostya Hoffman each had an RBI.
