Loggers swamp Lakers A to open doubleheader
The Libby Loggers took advantage of the Kalispell A Lakers’ wildness and defense to score an 11-1 Class A Legion victory in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Griffin Field.
The nightcap had not ended at press time.
Caden Williams’ 3-run double was the big hit in a 7-run second inning for Libby (15-22), which strung together three hits with five walks, a hit batter and a Lakers error to go up 8-0.
Rusty Gillespie singled and drew a bases-loaded walk in the frame.
Tucker Masters had two RBIs; he, Williams and Kiye Jenkins each scored twice.
Caleb Moeller went the distance on the mound: In five innings he gave up five hits and a walk, and struck out two. His lone run was unearned. The game ended early under the mercy rule.
Hunter Smith had two hits and the lone RBI for the Lakers (19-23), while Aaron Crutsinger came in for two innings of work on the hill. He gave up one hit and two walks, but no runs.
