KALICO Art Center’s public art initiatives continue

| July 15, 2021 12:00 AM

The KALICO Art Center is seeking 12 artists to submit original works of art that will be converted into a vinyl wrap, courtesy of Wrap Hive, to help beautify 12 traffic signal boxes (TSB) in downtown Kalispell. The goal of this traffic signal box (TSB) project is to complement the city and beautify the streetscape by adding visually beautiful works of art on surfaces that are often targeted by unwanted tagging and graffiti.

Artwork on TSBs will function as a form of communication to a moving audience with the goal of creating a welcoming and interesting environment. The jury committee will prioritize submissions that foster community pride and share all that the Flathead Valley has to offer. Selected artists will be awarded $200. When designing the artwork, artists are encouraged to consider the relationship of the imagery to the TSB and its users (pedestrians, commuters and neighbors).

This project is made possible through the Tourism Grant Program provided by the Montana Department of Commerce, in-kind donations from Discover Kalispell, Kalispell Downtown Association, and Wrap Hive.
