Zhang, Loggers forge split with Cannons
MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — Tripp Zhang homered and drove in five runs and the Libby Loggers earned a split of their Legion doubleheader by beating the Spokane Cannons 14-10 Thursday.
Zhang had a banner day at the plate, hitting two triples in an 8-6 loss in the first game, then added two more triples in the nightcap. He went 4-for-4, and scored four runs.
His RBI triple keyed a 3-run first for Libby (16-24); his 2-run homer put the Loggers up 7-3 in the second, and his RBI triple in the third made it 9-4.
After Spokane cut the gap to 11-10, Zhang led the sixth off with a single and came in on Aydan Williamson’s triple. Landon Haddock and Hunter Lindsay added RBI singles to cap the scoring.
Williamson also went 4-for-4, and scored three times. Caden Williams added two hits and three runs scored, and Haddock had three hits and two RBIs.
In the first game the Cannons ran out to a 6-2 lead and held on. In the seventh Libby loaded the bases with a hit and two walks. Williamson, Lindsay and Hoover all were hit by pitches to drive in runs, cutting an 8-3 deficit to 8-6 before a strikeout ended.
Seven Logger errors led to four unearned runs; the Cannons had just five hits and three RBIs.
