MISSOULA — Missoula’s Rory Hunt backed his own pitching with a 3-run double in the first inning, and the Mavericks went on to beat the Kalispell Lakers 8-2 at the West A District Legion tournament late Friday.

The loss at Lindborg-Cregg Field ended the A Lakers’ season at 24-27. Down 5-0, they managed single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Mavericks (28-29) added three runs in the fifth to make a comeback unlikely.

The bottom of the order fared well for Kalispell, with James Moody — who threw 31/3 innings of relief Friday — collected three hits, including a double. Oscar Kallis had two hits and an RBI; Haiden Bunyea drove in the Lakers’ other run.
