BILLINGS — Bigfork’s Cormac Benn lined up at receiver Saturday and ran his way to an offensive MVP award, as his North team beat the South 28-21 in the Montana Class B All-Star football game at Lockwood Stadium.

Benn had touchdown runs of 2, 6 and 68 yards and caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Glasgow’s Loden Idler.

The scoring runs came on a jet sweep in which the receiver goes in motion and takes a short flip from the QB. The 190-pound Carroll College signee ran nine times for 98 yards and had three catches for 52.

Benn’s 68-yarder were the final points of the game. South’s had two possessions in the final 7:38, ending with an interception by Missoula Loyola’s Tommy Albrecht and then a turnover on downs at the South 10-yard line in the final minute.

Albrecht was the North’s defensive MVP. Garnering MVPs for the South were Whitehall’s Flint Smith, who had eight catches for 142 yards, and Colstrip’s Rylin Burns on defense.

The North now leads this series 17-15, having won two straight. No game was played in 2020 because of the pandemic.

Benn’s brother Connor Benn was defensive MVP of this game for the North in 2014.
