The Kalispell A Lakers made three hits stand up for an 8-6 Legion baseball win over the Bitterroot Bucs Wednesday, salvaging a doubleheader split at Griffin Field.

The Bucs won the first game 11-7.

In the nightcap the Lakers capitalized on three walks, two hit batters and an error to seize a 3-1 lead, and the Bucs never led.

Nic Gustafson’s bunt single started another 3-run burst in the fourth inning: The Bucs helped things along with two more errors, another hit batter and a wild pitch. The Lakers led 6-3

Oscar Callis threw five strong innings for the Lakers, giving up six hits and two walks. He fanned four.

In the first game, however, Kalispell pitching surrendered five walks along with 13 hits.

In the fifth Jackson Nelson’s RBI single let the Lakers knot the score at 6-6, and a second error in the inning by the Bucs let them load the bases with one out, but no more runs came across.

Bitterroot’s Daniel Bartels untied in the top of the sixth with a 3-run homer, scoring Brandon Schneiter, who’d singled, and Andrew Scully, who doubled. Bartels had four hits and four RBIs.

Colby Kohlman hit a solo homer as part of the Bucs’ 2-run seventh; in their half the Lakers got a run.
