Glacier’s Mohl named Montana Gatorade POY
Glacier High’s Kynzie Mohl has hit another one out of the park: She was named Montana’s Softball Gatorade Player of the Year this week.
The 2021 graduate is headed to the University of Montana to play Division I softball, and it’s not difficult to see why. A three-time All-State pick, Mohl hit .634 this past season with a school-record 18 home runs and 67 runs batted in — in 26 games.
She was named the Western AA Offensive Player of the Year on June 7. She went 8-2 on the mound this past spring for Glacier, a performance her catching and offense often overshadowed.
Her slugging percentage was 1.451 and she scored 45 runs this spring; her career batting average at Glacier was .505.
Mohl also holds a 3.51 grade-point average and was active in the Ronald McDonald House charities and Glacier’s Freshman Mentor program.
“Kynzie is one of those special players who learned the power of discipline and dedication early on in her softball career,” said Glacier coach Abby Connolly, whose club went 23-5 and finished fourth at the State AA tournament. “This has paid dividends both at the plate and defensively.”
All of it adds up to the Gatorade Award, given not just for athletic excellence but academic achievement and exemplary character.
Mohl is now eligible for the National Player of the Year, and can award a $1,000 grant to a local or national youth sports organization of her choosing.
