A Twins end up 5-0 at Lewistown tourney
LEWISTOWN — Jake McIntyre’s two-out, 2-run double capped a big inning that broke open a close game for the Glacier Twins, who beat Lewistown 8-3 in the championship of the Gjerde Memorial tournament Sunday.
McIntyre’s drive to left pushed Glacier’s lead out to 7-2 on the host Lewistown Redbirds, who played visitor in the game. It was the Twins’ fourth hit of the inning: Hayden Meehan hit a lead off triple and scored on Stevyn Andrachick’s grounder; Zach Veneman and Jacob Polumbus singled ahead of the double.
The Twins (25-8) went 5-0 at the tournament, including an 8-0 win over these same Redbirds Thursday night. On Sunday they took a 2-1 lead on the first, taking advantage of two walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch.
Mason Peters hit a sacrifice fly in the third to put Glacier up 3-1, before Lewistown (22-18) closed to 3-2 on Trevor McAlpin’s RBI single.
A double steal with McIntyre and Andrachick brought Andrachick home with his third run in the sixth.
George Robbins got the win, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks, in five innings. He struck out five.
