Bison roll past Glacier at AA boys

GREAT FALLS — Reid Harris scored 19 points and Great Falls High rode an 18-0 run in the second quarter to a 66-38 win over Glacier at the State AA boys’ basketball tournament Wednesday.

The Bison, 15-1, advanced to Friday’s 5:30 p.m. semifinal against Helena Capital. The Bruins beat Bozeman 67-52 in the first game of the tournament Wednesday morning.

The Wolfpack, 7-9, will face Bozeman in a loser-out today at 1 p.m.

Glacier led the Bison 5-0 early and when Weston Price drained a three at 5:20 of the second quarter, the Pack trailed just 18-14. Then Drew Wyman, who scored 13 points for Great Falls, hit a 15-footer to spark the pivotal run.

Guard Levi Torgeson scored all of his six points in quick succession to move the gap to 26-14, before Tarel Rollins and Cale Gundlach hit back-to-back threes.

It was 36-16 after Gundlach scored again, with 12 seconds left. Price, who led Glacier with 17 points, scored before the halftime horn to stem the surge.

The gap grew to 58-25 on a Rollins basket late in the third quarter and the Bison, who have 11 straight, began clearing their bench early in the fourth.

Jaxson Olson added nine points for the Wolfpack, which committed 22 turnovers. Gundlach and Rollins added nine each for Great Falls.

Junior guard Brayden Koch hit three 3-pointers, threw down a dunk and scored 25 points to lead the Capital Bruins (10-6) into the State AA semifinals.

A 23-point second quarter fueled the Bruins, who led 29-22 at the break and then put the game away in the fourth quarter.

Koch was 9-for-14 from the field and 3-for-7 from the arc. Capital shot 55 percent (24-for-44) from the field while winning its sixth straight since a 58-46 loss at Flathead on Feb. 18.

Post player Hayden Opitz added 18 points for Capital. Jackson Basye has 21 to lead the Hawks (11-5), while Ty Huse chipped in with 10.
