Flathead alum Johnson enters transfer portal
Tiana Johnson, a 6-foot-2 guard-forward out of Flathead High School, has entered the NCAA transfer portal after three seasons at Sacramento State.
The junior would actually have two years of college eligibility remaining, since the NCAA stopped the clock on eligibility in this pandemic-affected school year.
Skylinesports.com reported Johnson’s presence in the transfer portal on Saturday. She was an All-State player at Flathead High as a senior, averaging 17.1 points and 8.6 rebounds in 2016-17, and played in the annual Montana-Wyoming All-Stars series.
She landed at Sac State and, after a medical redshirt in 2017-18, averaged 4.1, 11.4 and 12.2 points over the next three seasons for the Hornets.
This past season she also averaged 7.2 rebounds for the Hornets, and had 11 points and six boards in a 65-58 win over the Lady Griz at the Big Sky Tournament on March 9 -- the Hornets’ first postseason win since 2017.
Sacramento State lost its ensuing game with Montana State 66-55 and ended the season 3-22. In Johnson’s three years the Hornets have won 10, eight and three games.
Johnson is the youngest of four daughters born to Lynnette and Tryg Johnson. Tryg Johnson played center for Montana State from 1983-85, and is among the top 10 in career rebounds for the Bobcats.
