Kila man accused of shooting at neighbor's home

A Kila man was arrested after his neighbor claimed he repeatedly fired a high-powered rifle toward the neighbor's home.

Robert Allen Foster, 61, was booked into the Flathead County Detention Center Saturday, March 13, on one felony count of criminal endangerment. He posted $10,000 bail and was released Tuesday.

According to charging documents, at about 5:19 p.m. Saturday, a man called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to report a neighbor shooting in the direction of his house on Torto Loop in Kila.

The victim said he heard gunfire earlier in the day and saw bullets striking trees near the house. He also said he saw tree branches fall near the home after being struck by bullets.

The man then told his family to seek cover in the concrete basement. He then walked to a neighbor’s home on Tranquil Valley Drive to determine where the gunfire came from.

The man said he saw Foster walk out of his garage with an AR-15 style gun. He asked Foster to stop shooting in the direction of his house. The victim said Foster disregarded his request and fired more bullets toward his home, about 200 yards from where the shots were fired.

The deputy who investigated saw marks on the trees that were consistent with being struck by bullets.

The deputy then spoke with Foster and he allegedly said he fired a gun.

Foster faces a maximum term of 10 years in the Montana State Prison. His arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8.
