Law roundup: Beer thief caught in the act

| March 19, 2021 12:00 AM

A man at a business in Kalispell was reported to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office for trying to steal a beer and then throwing it on the ground when he was caught in the act. More confusing still, the angry thief left a $1 fountain drink at the business, even though the beer reportedly only cost $.99.

A man said he “mainly just wanted to blow off steam about the way people are driving” near his residence. He discussed a couple different solutions with Sheriff’s Office representatives, and an officer even did two extra patrols in the area, but the caller appeared disinterested after he got his complaints off his chest.

A Kalispell man placed five accidental phone calls to the Sheriff’s Office while he was trying to clear out his voicemail box.

Someone called with questions about their neighbors putting up “no trespassing signs.” He said he was “sure this is public property but would like to be sure.” He eventually hung up.

A Kalispell woman walked up to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to complain about a “mountain of trash” that her neighbor intended to burn in the yard. The woman was worried because the last time this neighbor burned her trash, it apparently “stunk up the whole neighborhood.”

A rock was thrown through a window of a Columbia Falls home. The homeowner’s son was able to identify the vandals as three young adults he knew, based on video footage caught on the property.

There apparently was some suspicion over people going Easter basket shopping, but the Sheriff’s Office determined there was “no need” to investigate the situation.

Almost two weeks after he noticed eight guns missing from his gun safe, a Kalispell man reported the apparent theft.

A woman said she recognized two men and a “tiny dog” stealing mail from the set of mailboxes outside her residence. She reportedly yelled at them and they left. She said the incident happened “a long, long time ago” and she apparently “could not be more specific.”

A park manager wanted to report someone for throwing personal trash away in a park dumpster.

A Coram woman said a camper was parked on her property, and the people living in it allegedly approached her threateningly with a sledgehammer when she tried to bring up their trespassing. However, one of the people in the camper said he planned to move it, and the threats were deemed to be unfounded.

A man was reported for lying down in the middle of a highway west of Kalispell. Then he got up and started walking on a trail on the side of the road.
