Glacier High language students honored for achievements
Thirty-five Glacier High School students were inducted into national Spanish and French honor societies on April 26.
Spanish Honor Society inductees are: Eden Brooke Flake, Morgan Friar, Kait Giffin, Sidney Gulick, Mayleen Hoover, Kylie Jones, Rachel Marie Jutzi, Kyler Knutson, Libby Schneider and Logan Schuman.
French Honor Society inductees include: Connor Byle Paul Cornish, Molly Fang, Jaclyn Green, Ruby Guy, Mayleen Hoover, Allison Kernan, Kathrin Kimble, Natalie Knuffke, Paige Koel, Caleb Lamb, Kemana Larkey, Mandy Ly, McKenzie Mitchell, Kate Opre, Alexis Peck, Autumn Beth Ploot, Tegan Powell, Jordan Reiner, Alyssa Roberts, Sydney Ruff, Tegan Ryan, Jonathan Tonjum, Brooke Walter, and Eowyn Zuckert.
Glacier Spanish teacher Heidi Emerson and French teacher Stephanie Hill said the students are “shining examples of global citizens,” who “represent the very best and the very brightest,” of the high school’s language program.
Students Henry Smith and Alexis Reiner were chosen as recipients of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Outstanding Senior in Spanish and American Association of Teachers of French Outstanding Senior in French, respectively.
Also recognized were 15 current members with high achievement in their fourth year of language study including: Emily Cleveland, Mariah Dickey, Ellie Keller, Sam Manaker Adison Powell, Henry Rossetter Smith and Rory Smith, all Spanish Honor Society members; and Tyler Cockerill, Kensey Crawford, Madison Johnson, Nicole Mitchell, Alexis Reiner, Simon Roston, Kiersten Smith and Elizabeth Sweeney, all French Honor Society members.
Twenty seniors who will graduate with the school’s international language distinction for completing coursework with an international language focus include: Tyler Cockerill, Paul Cornish, Emily Cleveland, Kensey Crawford, Mariah Dickey, Delaney Halkinrude, Mayleen Hoover, Madison Johnson, Ellie Keller, Moira Macfarlane, Nicole Mitchell, Alexis Reiner, Simon Roston, Henry Smith, Kiersten Smith, Rory Smith, Elizabeth Sweeney, Kaitlyn Thomas, Serena Turner and Hailee Willia
Kalispell Middle School Spanish and French teacher Lachelle Davis-Monnett was honored with the Amici Linguarum (Friend of Languages) Award for showing exemplary support of International Language learning, teaching and culture in the Flathead Valley. Recipients of this award are selected by the students.
“With her innovative and inclusive teaching methods, kindness and compassion for her students, and never ending energy, she has helped grow the language class offerings at the middle school from one opportunity to two, opening up both Spanish and French to our seventh- and eighth-graders,” according to a press release from Hill. “She is an incredible advocate for language learning in our valley and is proof that one teacher can truly change the world.”
