Several Griz named All-Big Sky for softball
Senior first baseman Cami Sellers is a first-team selection and three more Montana Grizzlies were second-team All-Big Sky Tuesday, when the conference released its softball honors squads.
Juniors Kylie Becker and Maygen McGrath and freshman Anna Toon were named second team, while seniors Tristin Achenbach and Jessica McAlister and sophomore Jaxie Klucewich were honorable mention.
Sellers batted .317 with seven home runs this spring for the Griz, which is 16-28 overall and tied for third in the Big Sky with an 8-10 league mark.
She hit .340 in her Montana career, ranks second in career doubles (37), third in home runs (20) and it tied for fourth in RBIs (85). Sellers was the Big SKy’s Top Newcomer in 2019, when she was also a second-team all-conference pick.
McGrath, a shortstop, ranks second in the Big Sky in runs (38), and third in hits (56), doubles (11) and RBIs (40). Her .392 average and 12 home runs both sit fourth in the league, and she is taking a 14-game hitting streak into the Big Sky tournament.
Becker, a leadoff hitter and third baseman, is hitting .331 after a recent surge of four three-hit games; Toon, a pitcher/utility player who usually is in right field, is hitting .420 after a similar offensive tear.
Achenbach is Montana’s career wins leader with 32 and leads the Big Sky in strikeouts this season with 160, 74 more than any other league pitcher.
McAlister, is batting a career-best .325 this season as a designated player.
Klucewich has started 41 of 44 games in left field and is hitting .337.
Montana, the No. 6 seed, will open the Big Sky Conference Championship on Thursday with an opening-round game against No. 3 Sacramento State at noon.
