A Flathead Valley woman is accused of driving drunk with her young child in the vehicle.

Shantel Angela Calbick, 21, was charged with felony criminal endangerment after a traffic accident last month.

According to the charging document, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper responded to the intersection of Helena Flats Road and Evergreen Drive for a two-vehicle crash.

He spoke with a man who said he was driving on Helena Flats Road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Calbick. The man said the other vehicle didn’t stop at a stop sign at the intersection.

When the trooper spoke with Calbick, she allegedly said she failed to stop and struck another vehicle. Also in the vehicle was a 23-month-old child.

The trooper said he smelled alcohol while he spoke with Calbick and she allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash.

When Calbick took standard field sobriety tests, the trooper saw signs of impairment. She also provided a breath sample, which registered an alcohol concentration of 0.113, more than the legal limit of 0.08.

Calbick was arrested and placed in the county detention center May 7 before being released on May 10.

Her arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, May 20, in Flathead County District Court. Calbrick faces a maximum term of 10 years in the Montana State Women’s Prison.
