Wolfpack Theatre’s season finale is filled with hilarity

| May 13, 2021 12:00 AM

The classics collide in the Shakespeare-meets-Bonanza-meets-Gunsmoke version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” May 14, 15 and 18 at 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at GHS. Tickets, available at the GHS Main Office and at Photo Video Plus, are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens. Seating is limited and masks are required.

This new take on Shakespeare’s classic, romantic comedy follows four young lovers, a lively crew of fairies and the quirky group of blue collar workers who experience a night of mistaken passions, misplaced affection and deficits of social awareness and talent.

“‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream” has four funny and overlapping plots: a royal marriage, four young people in love, a group of blue collar workers trying to put on a play, and of course fairies,” said director Marcy Maroney. “They all end up in the same forest on the same midsummer evening and hilarity ensues.”

Setting the play in Athens, Georgia, instead of Athens, Greece, puts a new comedic spin on this classic tale. Combining a Southern drawl and a Western set with Shakespeare’s characters and stories leads to no end of the complications, the miscommunications or the comedy.

“We have added some great music and choreography to put together a fun evening of theatre, Maroney said. “I chose a show that is absolutely joyous to celebrate the fact that these kids managed to complete an entire theatre season during a worldwide pandemic,” said Maroney. “We are so grateful to have an administration and school board who worked tirelessly to give the students at Glacier the best year possible under challenging circumstances.”

The cast of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” includes Ty Espeseth, Kaelin Holt, Tristan Moreland, Sydney Barcus, Alexa Wilton, Avram Bingham, Kerraline Bemis, Zach Hall, Mac Adkins, Ashley Bruce, Mayleen Hoover, Ellison Eaton, Zach Lapke, Jessalyn Hewitt, Elizabeth Sweeney, Sydney Fletcher, Kadence Hall, Elise Pitts and Kenzie Nordness.

The sound, lighting and stage crew includes Fiona Fuller, Lane McKoy, Quinn Thomas, April Downing, Bella AuClaire, Braden Wakefield, Elle Plum, Elise Plum, Leah Esser, Toben Mallo and Bridgett Meskis.

The set design and props were built by Sara Menssen's Theatre Arts Classes.
