Mohl homers twice, sets record as Pack sweeps Butte

Kynzie Mohl knocked the ball around and out of the park Friday, leading Glacier to a doubleheader sweep of Butte that gave the Wolfpack the No. 1 seed into next week’s softball divisionals.

Mohl went 7-for-8 at the plate on the day, homering in both wins and claiming Glacier’s single-season record with 12. The Pack won by scores of 12-2 and 11-1.

Both games ended early under the 10-run mercy rule; Glacier is 21-2, 12-2 in league and will face winless Missoula Hellgate in the first round of the Western AA tournament Thursday at 1 p.m.

The Pack will play a second divisional game at 5 p.m. Thursday, win or lose.

Butte fell to 7-13, 6-8 in the Western AA.

Mohl and Emma Cooke each hit 3-run homers during a 9-run third inning, Mohl drove in four runs while going all six innings on the mound.

Kenna Vanorny sparked the offense by going 3-for-3; she scored four runs. Halle Schroeder had a 4-for-4 performance at the plate and scored twice. Cooke drove in three runs.

On the hill Mohl scattered seven hits and one walk and hit a batter, and struck out five.

Mohl doubled twice in a 4-for-4 performance and drove in six runs, and Vanorny set the table by getting hit by a pitch four times. She scored a run each time.

With Glacier playing as visitor, Mohl hit a 3-run homer in the fifth to make it 10-1, and passed Ali Williams’ 11 for the school’s single-season mark. Williams is a Glacier assistant.

After the homer, Sammie Labrum hit her second double and came home on a single by Kenadie Goudette to make it 11-1.

Ella Farrell then closed out Butte in its half of the fifth to complete a 3-hitter. She walked two, hit one batter and struck out eight, and backed her pitching with a double and two RBIs.

Labrum and Alli Kernan each scored twice.
