POLSON — Mikenna Ells' performance at Nelson-Thomas ABC meet was as simple as 1, 2, 4.

The Whitefish senior swept the three girls’ sprints Saturday and lowered her state-best time in the 400 meters to 57.46 seconds. She’d clocked 57.79 11 days before, and edged past Helena’s Odessa Zentz (57.48) for the fastest time this spring regardless of class.

The Bulldogs finished a close second in the girls’ team race, scoring 105.5 points to 113.5 for perennial Southwest A power Corvallis.

Frenchtown won the boys’ team title with 115 points. Columbia Falls was fourth at 51 and Whitefish fifth with 49.

It was a fast meet. Columbia Falls’ Lara Erickson lowered her personal best in the 1,600 by almost 13 seconds, to 5:13.86. That leads Class A; sister Siri Erickson is second at 5:26.35.

Siri Erickson won the 3,200 Saturday.

Other PRs were set by Columbia Falls’ Ally Sempf (26.94 in the 200, where she finished fourth) and Hailey Ells of Whitefish (46.76 in the 300 hurdles, where she was second to Corvallis’ Olivia Lewis. Those two now sit 2-3 in Class A. Hailey Ells won the 100 hurdles.

Both Whitefish and Columbia Falls ran their fastest 400-meter relays of the spring, while finishing 1-2. The Bulldogs (50.08) and Wildkats (51.25) are 2-3 in the A rankings. They went 1-2 in Saturday’s long relay as well.

Columbia Falls’ Rebeka Walker cleared 9 feet in the pole vault to finish fourth and teammate Hannah Sempf matched her season best of 10-0 to take second.

Winning was Corvallis’ Kailen Herbstritt, who cleared 11-0. That was one of three Blue Devils’ wins Saturday.

The Whitefish boys’ got a win from Bodie Smith in the 300 hurdles, whose time of 42.38 was a personal record and sits No. 4 in Class A. Smith also had a PR in the long jump, winning with a leap of 20-6.5. That sits No. 6 in A.

Columbia Falls’ Jace Duval won the 200, Polson’s Jarrett Wilson claimed the 100 and Ronan’s Germa Detwiler won the triple jump.

One highlight in the boys’ meet was an 800 race that, even though Class A leader Lane Cole of Hamilton didn’t compete, saw four top-10 times. Leading the way was Jeremy Bockus of Browning, who ran 1:59.33. Only Cole’s 1:58.75 is faster, for all classes.

Brinson Wyche of Corvallis, Michael Irvine of Rolna and Gabe Lund of Whitefish followed.

Hamilton’s Colter Kirkland and Colter Purcell ran the two fastest 1,600 meter times Saturday. Cole, meanwhile, won the 3,200 in 9:54.74 and sits No. 3 in Class A in that event.
