Eureka’s Bohne, Casazza have strong first rounds at State B golf

BILLINGS — Eureka’s Kyla Bohne and Thompson Falls’ Megan and Ellie Baxter are all sitting in the top 10 of the girls’ State B golf tournament, which began Tuesday at Eaglerock Golf Course.

Eureka’s Erik Casazza is sitting tied for eighth in the boys’ individual race.

Bohne is sitting third after a first-round 87, and Megan Baxter is right behind at 88. Ellie Baxter’s 95 puts her in a tie for ninth with Camryn Collins of Baker.

Fairfield’s Emma Woods fired a 78 to take the first-round lead by two strokes over Celi Chapman of Boulder.

Big Timber, led by Sam Moore’s 90, has a two-stroke edge in the team race over Columbus, with 406. Shelby is third at 434. Division 3 champion Three Forks saw its Nol. 3 golfer disqualified and now sits fifth, 33 strokes off the pace. Bigfork is 10th out of 12 teams.

On the boys’ side Columbus built a 9-stroke lead in the team race, with Caden Meier and Mike Courts shooting 79-80. The Cougars have 334 strokes to 343 for Conrad and 347 for Missoula Loyola.

Loyola’s Zeke Boos is tied with Conrad’s Jarek Shepherd after the first day of competition. Both shot 76. Casazza and Rowdy Hudson of Huntley Project both shot 82.

Eureka is sitting seventh in the team standings, with 371

Bigfork’s Colin Wade shot a first-round 90 and sits just outside the top 15. The tournament concludes Wednesday.
