No. 27834 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICE REGULATION BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF MONTANA IN THE MATTER OF NorthWestern Energy's Application for Approval of Capacity Resource Acquisition REGULATORY DIVISION DOCKET NO. 2021.02.022 NOTICE OF APPLICATION, INTERVENTION DEADLINE, AND OPPORTUNITY FOR INTERVENOR COMMENTS I. Notice of Application On May 19, 2021, NorthWestern Energy ("NorthWestern") filed an Application for Approval to Acquire Capacity Resources ("Application") with the Montana Public Service Commission ("Commission"). NorthWestern requests approval to enter a 20-year agreement to purchase capacity and ancillary services from a 50-megawatt battery energy storage facility to be built in Yellowstone County, Montana, and approval to build and own a 175-megawatt nameplate capacity natural gas-fired generating power plant to be built in Laurel, Montana. On April 6, 2021, the Commission issued a Notice of Opportunity to Intervene inviting interested parties to petition for intervention in this matter prior to the filing of NorthWestern's Application. To inform this decision, the Commission invites intervenors to file comments on NorthWestern's Application by June 7, 2021. Northwestern must respond to any comments by June 21, 2021.
