Letters to the editor Nov. 8
Bait and switch
In regards to George Wind Singer’s Nov. 4 letter, I feel obliged to disagree with several of his statements and conclusions.
As to the religious beliefs of the founders: many, if not most, were from, and baptized into, various Protestant faiths. Some expressed deist leanings later on. Singer’s assertion that they were not Christians is of no consequence in the discussion. What they, and especially Jefferson, favored in government was a small government, states’ rights, a strict interpretation of the constitution, and individual liberties. That has nothing to do with what religion they espoused.
The Jeffersonian Republican Party, better known as the Democratic-Republican party evolved into today’s Democratic Party. To assign liberal or conservative labels to the founders and then compare their beliefs to those of today’s liberals and conservatives is just a bait and switch tactic.
Singer’s exhortation to conservatives to follow the founders’ lead or be respectful of those who do is laughable since conservatives definitely do follow the founders’ principles. Modern Democrats’ attack on the Constitution, states’ rights, individual freedoms, and many other deviations from the founders’ original intentions shows a blatant disregard of those original beliefs.
The Democrats’ common tactic of accusing conservatives of their very own actions comes to light again in Singer’s letter. Pay attention folks; liberals are very sneaky.

Search and rescue grant
The Flathead County Search and Rescue Association has recently received a $3,800 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund. The grant will be put toward the purchase of needed medical equipment used in backcountry responses.
Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund supports communities where they have a significant presence or business interest. Employees serve on local advisory committees for the Giving Fund and help develop funding priorities within seven focus areas to support their communities: affordable housing; education and youth development; environmental stewardship; human services; civic and cultural growth; workforce development; and diversity, equity and inclusion.
