The Montana Department of Transportation is taking public comments on a plan to repair or replace eight culverts on U.S. 2, southwest of Marion. The failing culverts carry Kelly Creek or roadside drainage under the highway.

The project begins about 2.5 miles east of McGregor Lane and ends about 6 miles west of Marion.

In addition to replacing culverts, the roadside slopes will be stabilized and flattened just west of Red Gate Road.

The purpose of the project is to ensure that access, safety and traffic capacity needs are maintained by eliminating the threat that these deteriorating culverts could collapse and cause significant damage to the roadway.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2022, depending on completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way construction permits, and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT Staff will contact landowners prior to construction regarding temporary construction permits.

Comments may be submitted online at http://www.mdt.mt.gov/mdt/comment_form.shtml or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Missoula office at PO Box 7039, Missoula, MT 59807-7039. Note that comments are for project UPN 10072000.
