Dawgs surge past Loggers, 27-14

LIBBY — Bodie Smith’s 93-yard kickoff return started a strong second half for the Whitefish Bulldogs, who earned a hard-fought 27-14 win over Northwest A rival Libby Friday.

Smith’s return gave the Bulldogs (7-0 overall, 2-0) in league some momentum after Libby (3-4, 2-3) took a 6-0 lead into halftime.

Cody Berry’s 11-yard scoring run put Whitefish ahead 14-6, but the Loggers drew even on Jace Deshazer’s short scoring run.

Whitefish took the lead for good on Fynn Ridgeway’s 1-yard run in the fourth quarter; Ridgeway then fired a 26-yard scoring pass to Jaxsen Schlauch to put the game out of reach.

Ridgeway was 6-for-13 passing for 90 yards and ran for 34 yards in the defensive battle. Cody Berry had 13 carries for 65 yards.

Libby outgained the Bulldogs 279-194. Davis ran 21 times for 91 yards, and was 4-for-12 passing 54. Cy Stevenson ran for 98 yards on 21 carries and Deshazer had 13 carries for 52 yards.

Whitefish returns home this Friday for the annual Cat-Dog battle with Columbia Falls.

Polson 42, Havre 14

POLSON — Jarrett Wilson threw for 301 yards and five touchdowns and tore off an 88-yard scoring run Friday to lead Polson over non-conference foe Havre.

Wilson was 15-for-18 passing for the Northwest A Pirates (7-0), who led 35-0 at halftime. Two of his TD passes covered 70 and 25 yards to Colton Graham, who had three catches for 119 yards. Xavier Fisher, who had four catches for 58 yards, caught scoring strikes of 25 and 15 yards.

Alex Muzquiz had another four catches for 93 yards for Polson, which piled up 454 yards of offense to 244 for the Northeast A Blue Ponies (2-5).
