Cats knock Dogs from unbeaten ranks

WHITEFISH — Cody Schweikert threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Isaiah Roth tore off a pair of TD runs as Columbia Falls knocked off unbeaten Whitefish in the Cat-Dog football game Friday, 35-19.

Schweikert was 10 for 20 passing for 144 yards with scoring strikes of 29 and 33 yards to Jace Duval. The first put the Wildcats (5-1 overall, 4-1 in the Northwest A) up 14-0; the second made it 21-13 midway through the third quarter.

After the Bulldogs (7-1, 2-1) drew to 21-19 on Ty Schwaiger’s 5-yard scoring run, Columbia Falls answered with Roth’s second touchdown — a 20-yard run on fourth-and-1 with 3:00 left in the fourth quarter.

Roth, who had 135 yards on 19 carries, had a 25-yard scoring burst in the first quarter. After his second TD, teammate Alihn Anderson picked off a Fynn Ridgeway and returned it almost 60 yards to the Whitefish 3.

Schweikert then scored his TD to put the game out of reach.

Ridgeway was 10 for 28 passing for 85 yards. He threw a second interception in the closing moments, Mason Peters making the pick in the end zone.

Duval had four catches for 72 yards for the Wildcats.

Logan Conklin had 62 yards on three carries for the Bulldogs. Schwaiger rushed for 95 yards on 11 carries, including a 51-yard burst. Conklin and Jaxsen Schlauch each picked off passes.
