Trustin Norick, Clayton Cole-Tinkham and Hayden Remington each scored goals and Dominic DeMario recorded three saves, but it wasn’t quite enough on Saturday as Petra Christian Academy defeated Stillwater Christian School 5-3 in the MCAA state championship soccer match.

The match was a back-and-forth affair. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie and the teams matched goals twice more in the second half.

Petra struck decisively in overtime, scoring two goals in the first five minute to put the game out of reach.

“I’m very proud of my guys,” said Stillwater coach Philip Lodien. “They played two OT games in back-to-back days and they still found a way to push a good Petra team to the end. It’s disheartening to lose such a close game for the second year in a row, but they showed tremendous poise and grace,” he said.
