Lions fall short in battle with Fairfield

FAIRFIELD — Miguel Perez and the No 2 Fairfield Eagles were too much for No. 6 Eureka Friday, beating the Lions 26-19 in an intraleague Class B football game.

Perez had scoring runs of 41, 47 and 9 yards to lead the Eagles, who trailed 3-0 and 10-6. His last TD made the score 26-12 in the fourth quarter; he ended with 163 yards on 18 carries.

Danny Dunn’s 21-yard scoring reception from Caleb Utter came with eight minutes left, but the Lions got no closer.

Utter was 8-for-21 passing for 94 yards and ran for 84 yards and Eureka’s first TD. Remington Little had 61 yards on 13 carries, and on defense had 6.5 tackles, including two for losses.

Dunn hit two field goals and caught three passes for 52 yards. Eureka narrowly outgained the Eagles 250-249, but lost two turnovers while Fairfield had none.
