Personal bests galore at Butte Invite XC

BUTTE — Glacier’s Sam Ells ran a personal best time Friday to top the field at the Butte Invitational. He was six seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Ells clocked a time of 15:41.4 and Finneas Colescott of Hellgate, in second, was 15:47.6, also a personal best.

Flathead’s top boys runner was Gabriel Felton, who ran a personal best time of 16:36.9, to lead the Braves to a ninth place finish overall. Glacier did not field a boys team. Preston, Ida. topped the team standings and had three runners in the top 20.

Hellgate’s Kensey May continued the trend of personal bests, running hers in the girls’ race: 17:59.8, 22 seconds ahead of second-place Kylie Hartnett of Helena.

Also running a personal best was Flathead’s Lilli Rumsey Eash in fifth place at 19:12.7.

Bozeman won the team title with Preston in second. Flathead finished seventh of 23 teams; Glacier was 18th.
