UM presents an outdoor dance program on campus this Saturday
The University of Montana Dance Program will launch its 2021-22 season with “Dance on Location,” a site-specific dance concert. The concert will be performed one time only at noon Saturday, Oct. 2, at UM’s Mansfield Mall between the University Center and Mansfield Library. The event is free and open to the public.
The outdoor concert unfolds as the audience travels (on foot, bike, stroller, skateboard, etc.) to different venues on and around campus to view diverse dance and performance-art installations. “Dance on Location” invites the audience to enjoy UM’s beautiful campus through the eyes of a choreographer and the magnificent movement of dancers.
Almost every fall, the dance program brings innovative new pieces of choreography out of the theaters and studios and into nature. Students enrolled in this semester’s Creative Practice I course are creating and performing the entire production as part of their work in the course.
“‘Dance on Location’ is an exciting opportunity for audiences to witness how students thrive in creating choreography inspired by alternative spaces,” said assistant professor of dance Brooklyn Draper. “Dance does not only exist on a stage … it can flourish in unexpected places!”
