Work on U.S. 2 near Marion begins Monday
A project to repair and replace multiple culverts on U.S. 2 southwest of Marion is slated to begin April 18.
The project begins about 2.5 miles east of McGregor Lane and ends almost 6 miles west of Marion. According to the Department of Transportation, the culverts are failing and pose a safety concern.
The Montana Department of Transportation and Noble Excavating, Inc. are performing the work, with the project expected to be complete this summer.
According to the DOT, there are eight culverts that carry Kelly Creek or roadside drainage underneath the roadway that need attention. In addition to the repair or replacement of each culvert, the project also includes the sub excavation, or removal of soil from underneath the roadway, of the roadside slopes. Additionally, the slopes will be flattened and reinforced with a high strength mixture to add additional roadway stability.
During construction, the public should expect lane closures and detours and motorcyclists are encouraged to consider an alternate route. Delays of up to 25 minutes are anticipated and the speed will be reduced to 35 mph throughout the construction zone. A 12-foot width restriction will also be in effect during construction.
