BIGFORK — Bigfork won the boys team title at its own Bigfork Invitational track and field meet Tuesday, but a lot of the big marks belonged to Whitefish.

The Vikings scored 249 points to far outpace Whitefish (133.5) and three other teams to the meet, which made up the one that was weathered out on April 2.

Whitefish’s girls scored 242 points to 176 for the Bigfork Valkyries, and the Bulldogs’ speed and power showed up on both sides.

Exhibit A: Talon Holmquist, who also won the discus, marked 52 feet, 6 inches in the shot put. That’s the best in the state for all classes and beyond his personal best of 52-3 1/2, set last year while winning the event at the State A meet.

Teammate Gabe Menicke won the 200 (in 23.76 seconds) and triple jump, and his jump of 45-5 1/2 both shattered his PR of 44-3 — which he did while winning the 2021 State A title — and is the best in Montana. It was Menicke’s first triple jump competition this spring.

The Bulldogs’ Barrett Garcia ran 2:05.98 in the 800, which ranks fourth in A; Bodie Smith owns second-fastest time in 300 hurdles after clocking 42.37 Tuesday.

Libby’s Cy Stevenson threw 46-11 in the shot put, which met the A qualifying standard and sits fourth in A.

The Vikings boys had their moments, with Isak Epperly running the fastest 110-meter hurdles (15.69 seconds) in Class B. Joseph Farrier took the 100 meters in 11.54, which was just outside the State B qualifying standard.

Levi Taylor didn’t win the triple jump (38-9 1/2) or shot put (45-5 1/2), but he PR’d in the former and is in the top 10 in Class B in both.

The Whitefish girls went fast: Brooke Zetooney’s 12.81 in the 100 is fastest in Class A, and teammate Hailey Ells ran the fastest 300 hurdles so far this spring, at 48.24.

Morgan Grube’s 3,200 time of 12:24.59 sits No. 2 in A, and the Bulldogs ran the second-fastest short relay and fastest long relay in the class.

Libby’s Rylee Boltz ran fourth-fastest 200 time of the spring, 27.49. She also became the fifth Class A athlete to reach the State A qualifying high jump height of 5-0.

For Bigfork, Chloe Raats ran the third-fastest 200 time in Class B (27.25) and also helped the Vals clock the fastest long relay in B this spring.

Teammate Lilly Tanko ran just over the qualifying standard in the 110 hurdles (16.54), but still sits No. 3 in Class B. Teammate Inga Turner is fifth.

Bigfork’s Scout Nadeau had possibly the most impressive mark: She uncorked a shot put of 37-8, almost five feet beyond her previous personal best. That ranks No. 2 in B, and obviously meets the state qualifying standard.
