Broncs softball edges Pirates in 8

FRENCHTOWN — Cassidy Bagnell scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning Tuesday to give Frenchtown a 3-2 win over Polson in a Class A softball showdown and pitcher’s duel.

The Northwest A Pirates (6-2) held a 2-1 lead over the Southwest A Broncs (10-0), thanks to Nikki Kendall’s 2-run double in the third inning.

Frenchtown’s Alexis Godin knotted the score at 2-2 with a solo homer in the furth, and from there Polson ace Katelyne Druyvestein and the Broncs’ Sadie Smith combined to three seven straight scoreless frames.

In the eighth, Bagnell hit a one-out single, stole second, moved to third on Smith’s groundout and scored on Druyvestein’s first wild pitch of the game.

Polson’s next action is 9:30 a.m. Friday against Class B power Florence, at the Frenchtown Invitational.
