The supernatural takes center stage in FHS Theatre’s ‘Ghostlight’
Flathead High School’s Theatre’s Acting 2 Class presents, “Ghostlight,” May 4 and 5 at 6:27 p.m. in the David M. Hashley Theater. Tickets are $7 for adults; and $5 for children, students and senior citizens and are available at the FHS Main Office and Photo Video Plus.
The story centers on high school student Garbiela Nettles who is mysteriously admitted to a prestigious high school academy. Immediately upon arrival, she notices this is not a normal school. All she wants to do is leave, but before she can get herself expelled, Garbiela starts to hear voices that no one else hears. Are they ghost echoes from the remnants of a tragic event in the school’s theater 10 years ago? To investigate, Garbiela joins the disastrous play in production at the academy. As she studies, Garbiela uncovers a story that’s both surprising and moving.
“As the play progresses, the audience discovers what is real and what is not,” said Liz Sykora, the show’s director and Acting 2 class instructor. “It might just leave you with more questions at the end than answers. Even though it contains supernatural elements, it is a show for all ages. None of these elements in the show are particularly scary and there are lots of humorous lines and moments.”
A ghost light is a single safety bulb left burning whenever a theater is dark. Some argue that its traditional function was to chase away mischievous spirits; others insist it lights the way to keep the ghosts that inhabit every theater happy and content.
“Ghostlight” has hilarious characters, unexpected twists and a riotous finale. It is full of humorous as well as emotionally powerful scenes with surprises that just keep coming.
“Ghostlight” is not the first script from playwright Stephen Gregg to be produced at Flathead High School. “One of our most infamous plays in the last four years was ‘Trap’ written by the same author,” Sykora said. “After licensing, the author informed us that we are the first licensed production of this show nationwide. Flathead is nothing if not a trendsetter!”
The cast includes Casey-Erin Alcock, Elliot Brown, Lou Corbett, Dilia Dederick, Emery Duran, Tharen Gheen, Hannah Gilbert, Daniel Guzman, Adisen Haag, Aerreck Haroldson, Declan Harris, Sophie Hebert, Grace Heindel, Kadence Johnson, Ian Lawson-Sanderlin, Annelise Mason, Molly O’Donnell, Alison Putzler Brooklynn Shepard, Jax Stebbins-Han, Robin Steffler, Chloe Taylor and Ryan Tiet.
Emmerson Kaseman, Brooklyn Plum, Michael Palmer, Kara Ort, Charis Wendle, Isabelle James, James Francis, Grant Westover, Aiden Christy and Bethany Nairn make up the stage lighting and sound crew.
