MISSOULA — Glacier had the boys medalist — Tyler Avery— while Polson pulled away to the team title at the Missoula Invitational golf tournament at Canyon River Tuesday.

Avery, who was second at the Great Falls Invitational last week, fired rounds of 76-70 and then prevailed in a scorecard playoff with Helena Capital’s Dutch Teders, who had rounds of 71-75. Avery’s 70 on Tuesday was the best round of the tournament.

Polson built a 12-stroke lead the first day of the tournament, then extended it Tuesday to win by 28 over a good Wolfpack squad, 589 to 617. Capital was third.

The Pirates’ five golfers placed third through seventh, with Carson Hupka (76-72) taking third in a scoreboard playoff with teammates Hunter Emerson (75-73) and Espn Fisher (75-73). Christian Lund (149) and Torrin Ellis (154) were next; Glacier’s Trevor Cunningham and Trey Engellant were ninth and 11th.

Flathead put three players in the top 15 — Dylan Morris (12th, 161), Nick Davis and Tyler Williams.

The girls team crown went to Helena Capital, while Frenchtown — with Broncs’ sophomore Katie Lewis taking medalist honors for the third time this season — was second, 19 strokes behind. Polson (778) was just one stroke back of Frenchtown; followed by Glacier, Butte and Flathead.

Lewis had rounds of 75-78 to outpace the field by 11 strokes; Missoula Hellgate’s Anna Stensrud was second with a 164 total.

Glacier’s Chloe Tanner (166) was third, followed by Ashley Maki (171) of Polson.

The Pack also had Kenna Sandler (eighth) and Braelyn Ryan in the top 15; Polson’s Clare Konen was seventh and Kila Cannon was 14th.

Flathead’s top finisher was McKinlie Murer, who was 19th.
