| December 14, 2022 12:00 AM

Helen Shirtliff, 85, of Kalispell, passed away on Dec. 10, 2022 after a short stay at the hospital.

Helen was born on Feb. 23, 1937 in Springfield, Missouri to John and Thelma Weaver.

After high school, Helen met Bob and it’s been Bob and Helen ever since.

She moved to Kalispell and attended Flathead High School. After high school, she went to work at the local phone company as an operator. In 1957, she married Robert Shirtliff. They had two sons, Rob and Bryan in 1958 and 1960. Helen was one of the original working moms and she did a fabulous job. As the boys grew up, the family spent summers at both Echo and Ashley lakes skiing, swimming and just enjoying the outdoors.

She enjoyed gardening in her spare time. She always had beautiful flowers growing in the garden.

She also enjoyed crocheting; everyone always had slippers, scarfs and afghans thanks to Helen. She even donated scarfs and hats to military relief.

During her 30-plus years at the phone company, she worked her way up to a supervisory position. She also committed time to community service through the Soroptimist Club.

Helen retired during the mid-80s. While she was retired, she got a chance to travel a little, spend quality time with her loved ones and enjoy her golden years.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Robert; her two sons Rob and Bryan; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home, with burial to follow at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
