Wolfpack Theatre production examines using imagination to overcome sadness
The Wolfpack Theatre Company at Glacier High School will present, “Zink: The Myth, the Legend, the Zebra,” Dec. 19 and Dec. 20.
Curtain time is 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School.
Based on a true story, “Zink'' takes a deep look into the devastating illness that is cancer and how a child can overcome sadness with the power of imagination. It follows the story of Becky Zaslow, a 10 year-old girl who must undergo chemotherapy because she has leukemia. To help deal with the physical and emotional pain, Becky imagines herself on the plains of Africa with a pack of zebras. The African animals range from street-smart Ice Z to endearing Shlep, a furry green monkey who is sure he's an actual zebra. While in her imaginary Africa, Becky hears the amazing tales of Zink, a mythical polka-dotted zebra. Zink, who was once an outcast, becomes a hero with the most courage and the biggest heart.
“This show will appeal to audience members of all ages and will touch the hearts of many,” said Greg Adkins, director and acting instructor. “We hope the play will remind us of the importance of acceptance.”
Written by Cherie Bennett, “Zink” spins a wonderful blend of fantasy and reality to explore the themes of true courage, friendship and acceptance. This allegory centers around a pre-teen girl with leukemia yet there are many light moments and many lessons to be learned. The audience gets a glimpse into the struggles and triumphs that families endure when one of their children has cancer.
This production of “Zink: The Myth, the Legend, the Zebra” is presented by the acting and stage production class at Glacier High School.
“This Acting and Stage Production Class is made up of 12 amazing GHS students ranging from sophomores to seniors,” Adkins said. “The majority of them will make their high school stage debut with this production.”
This is the second time the Wolfpack Theatre Company has presented “Zink.” The show was first produced in 2008 during the company’s first season. With music, colorful costumes and a heart-felt message, this 75-minute production of “Zink” will entertain the entire family.
