Louise Herbold, 87
Louise Herbold was born Feb. 18, 1935 in Everett, Washington. She passed away peacefully at her home in Kalispell on Dec. 11, 2022. The family moved to the Flathead Valley in 1940. She was educated in Kalispell and graduated from Flathead High School in 1953 and worked at Hillstead’s Department Store, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Louise married Leonard Herbold in July of ’53 at St. Matthews and they were together until his passing in 2003.
Louise and Leonard raised their nine children in the Helena Flats area, all of whom attended Helena Flats School. As the children became older, Louise took a job at nearby C&C Plywood Plant/Plumb creek in Evergreen. Not only was she one of the first women to work on the plywood production side of the plant, she actually started by pulling “fishtail” off the “green chain”, which was, and still is, a very physically demanding job.
Louise and Leonard were very devoted to their Catholic faith and were involved in the establishment of Risen Christ Parish in Evergreen and served on the Parish Council. She was also a member of the Catholic women’s group, Daughters of Isabella. Louise loved to say her daily rosary which was one of her most cherished prayers.
Louise loved meeting new people and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and within a short time could discover that there was someone they both knew! Louise enjoyed taking drives, family gatherings, riding her lawn mower, and baking and sharing apple pies.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Mary; her husband Leonard; her children: Faith Ann, Jennifer, and Lori Lea; grandchildren, Joshua and Anthony; and siblings: Mary Ellen, Bill, and Sunny Vern.
Louise is survived by her children: Mark (Melva), Kathy (Rick Thompson), Bernie (Dan Martin), Sister Mary Jessica, John (Jody), and Chris (CC). Louise is also survived by her brother George (Clara); her 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren!
Rosary will be said at Risen Christ Parish on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday, Dec. 16, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Risen Christ Parish and followed by interment at Glacier Memorial Gardens, with reception at Risen Christ to follow.
Donations in Louise’s name may be sent to: Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George at St. Francis Convent, 1 Franciscan Way, Alton, IL 62002-9020.
