Photographer Imma Barrera’s “Under the Night Sky” series and the importance of dark sky conservation will be the topic tonight as the Glacier National Park Conservancy hosts this month’s presentation in its Glacier Conversations series.

Born in Barcelona, Imma Barrera is a landscape and nature photographer based in New Jersey who specializes in nighttime photography and images of the Milky Way. A graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, Barrera has won several awards and exhibited her photography in a number of galleries worldwide.

A participant in the Artist-in-Residence programs of Glacier, Capitol Reef and Acadia National Parks, Barrerra’s program Wednesday will highlight Imma’s current project to raise awareness about the importance of nature conservation efforts, in particular, protecting the night sky from light pollution.

“I want to raise awareness of light pollution and the ways that we can protect our night skies,” she said. “I am hoping that using my photos, I can show people how important it is to keep our night skies dark.”

The images Barrera captured inside Glacier National Park during her time as the Artist in Residence in July 2021 will be featured in her upcoming book, “Under the Night Sky.”

Those interested in participating in the Conservancy’s Glacier Conversations series must register online beforehand at https://glacier.org/glacier-conversations/ for the meeting, which runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9.
