Ruth Dalimata, 92, of Nyack, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at the home she shared with John and her nine children, surrounded by her loving family.
A private family rosary will be said on Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Family Chapel in Nyack. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Richard Church in Columbia Falls. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ruth Voss was born on April 15, 1929, near Havre. When she was 7 years old the Voss family moved to Nyack. She attended grade school there and then high school in Columbia Falls, graduating from Columbia Falls High School in 1946. She attended nursing school in Great Falls for one year. She returned to Nyack where she married the handsome neighbor boy, John Dalimata, on June 28, 1949, at Saint Richard. They began a ranching life together that spanned 72 years.
Ruth was John’s right hand on the ranch, and could be found helping with calving out cows and running hay equipment while keeping a large garden to feed their growing family.
A very talented seamstress, Ruth made most of the clothes for her family. Her great pride and joy was hand stitching quilts to give away to her numerous grandchildren. Ruth was quick with a joke and loved to successfully “pull one over someone.”
Ruth nurtured and passed on her wealth of wisdom and life experience to her five boys and four girls, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and their spouses. There was always room at her table for neighbors, friends and anyone who just showed up at mealtime or needed a place to stay.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years on Dec. 31, 2021; her parents, Rude and Etta Voss; and her seven siblings; grandchildren, Andrew Dalimata, Lindy Dalimata Walker, Benjamin Semmler, and Rebecca Wilson; great-grandson Daniel Dalimata; and great-granddaughter, Mariella Dalimata.
She will be greatly missed by her nine children, Mike, Richard, Mark and Steve of Nyack, Mary Jane LaLiberty of Cascade, Montana, Suzanne Semmler of Ipswich, South Dakota, Christopher of Coram, Anita Armendariz of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Pauline Hanegan of Pelham, New Hampshire; 48 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
