Legion: Mariners win Harp Memorial title

Dawson DuMont drove in two runs and Xavier Fisher threw a four-hitter to lead Mission Valley over the Bozeman Bucks 8-0 to win the John R. Harp Memorial legion tournament Sunday.

DuMont hit an RBI double in the first inning and Ethan McCauley follows with an RBI triple while the Mariners (40-12) gave Fisher a 6-0 lead to work with.

DuMont hit an RBI triple of his own in the second, and came in on Espn Fisher’s single to make it 8-0. The score stayed there until the bottom of the fifth, when the game ended under the mercy rule.

Xavier Fisher allowed just two walks and struck out five while pitching Mission Valley’s third shutout in the tournament. He helped his own cause with two hits, three steals and two runs scored.

Helena’s JR Hushka hit an RBI double to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning, and another by Brayden Beatty made it 4-1 in favor of the Reps.

Starting pitcher Tyler Williams allowed four hits, six walks and three earned runs in five innings for the Lakers. He struck out three.

Brysen Herion’s RBI grounder scored Adam Nikunen to give the Lakers (22-29-1) a 1-0 lead in the first inning. They didn’t score again until Braden Capser hit an RBI single in the seventh to score Michael Owens. The tying run came to the plate for the Lakers, before a flyout ended it.

Braden Casper threw a five-inning three-hitter to lead the Lakers, who used a four-run third inning to take command of Saturday’s late Harp Memorial game.

Michael Owens drew a bases-loaded walk in the midst of the third inning, making it 4-0; the Lakers collected two walks and four singles in the inning, with Kyle Fahnfander’s base hit making it 5-0, and Jackson Heino’s sacrifice fly capping the inning.

Heino and Owens each had two RBIs. Casper walked none and fanned three.
