The Glacier Range Rider had the lead, then lost it, and fell to the Idaho Falls Chukars 9-5 Friday in a Pioneer League baseball game at Flathead Field.

The Range Riders (1-3 this half) managed just three hits but led 5-4 thanks to Ben McConnell reaching first on a dropped third strike — Brian Williams scored on the wild pitch — and Ryan Cash’s RBI single in the sixth inning.

Jose Reyes’ two-run double put the Chukars (3-1) back in front in the seventh. Dusty Stroupe and Reyes both hit RBI singles in the eighth and Steve Barmakian, who’d hit a home run to lead off the game, drove in a run with a double in the ninth for Idaho Falls.

The two teams were to continue their series Saturday night and Sunday.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Tyler Kelly’s two-run double put Idaho Falls ahead for good in the first inning, and the Chukars went on to beat the Range Riders.

Hunter Hisky’s sacrifice fly gave the Chukars an important insurance run in the fifth; the Range Riders used a Dean Miller double, a Livingston Morris double and a wild pitch to score twice in the seventh, cutting the gap to 6-4.

That’s as close as it got. Miller also hit a two-run homer, his ninth, in the second inning — but the rest of his team managed just two hits against four Idaho Falls pitchers. Miller also stole two bases.
