Mary Louise Alphin Hurley, 91
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Louise Alphin Hurley, our loving mother, devoted wife, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Feb. 25, 2022.
She left us in her 91st year surrounded by friends and family at her residence in Montana. She was the adored wife of Homer Hurley of 65 years, beloved mother of Richard Hurley, Katie Hurley and David Hurley, and proud grandmother of Andy Mackey, Jared Mackey, Anna Mackey and Willem Hurley.
Born in Virginia, Mary Lou lived a full life. After finishing university in Virginia, Mary Lou taught high school English and later moved to a farm in Montana via North Carolina. Mary Lou had an adventurous and spirited soul. The move to Montana was engendered by several family cross-country treks with trailer in tow. As a freshly minted Montanan, Mary Lou encouraged her children to participate in skiing, 4-H, and gave them an appreciation of life on the farm. After her kids graduated university, she and her husband spent several years volunteering for the Episcopal Church, teaching high school English in different cities in Honduras. She and Homer loved to travel. Over the years they traveled to six continents and well over 50 countries.
Mary Lou will be honored at All Saints Episcopal Church on March 7, 2022. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
Darlington Cremation and Burial Service is caring for the Hurley family.
