Written by John Steinbeck, “Of Mice and Men” follows the journey of Lennie and George, two migrant field workers as they pursue their shared dream of a better life on their own farm. Their unlikely friendship is complex as Lennie is a mentally challenged man-child who doesn’t know his own strength, and George, the tough-talking dreamer, feels the pressure to hide Lennie’s uniqueness from society.
Set in northern California during the Great Depression, this timeless tale about loneliness, the fundamental human need for friendship, and the challenges of chasing the elusive American Dream, puts the morality of man and our underlying desire to “do the right thing” front and center.
“‘Of Mice and Men’ is a simple, yet tragically poignant tale,” director Chris Adamcyk said. “It’s a story of damaged people trying to withstand and overcome life’s hardships and disappointments.
“The set symbolizes a spare and stripped-down version of migrant workers in the Depression age,” Adamcyk said. “This allows audiences to focus on the relationships in the story.”
Also known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “The Grapes of Wrath,” Steinbeck wrote the stage play “Of Mice and Men” in 1937. This literary masterpiece has stood the test of time.
