Labor department seminars focus on wages

The U.S. Department of Labor will offer online compliance seminars for contracting agencies, contractors, unions, workers and other stakeholders to provide information on the requirements governing payment of prevailing wages on federally funded construction and service contracts.

Offered by the department’s Wage and Hour Division, the seminars are part of the division’s ongoing effort to increase awareness and improve compliance with federal prevailing wage requirements.

The seminars will include on-demand video training on many Davis-Bacon and Related Acts and McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act topics. In addition, online question and answer sessions on DBRA and SCA compliance will be offered live in June and September.

Davis-Bacon Act compliance questions and answers are scheduled on June 14 and Sept. 13, and Service Contract Act compliance questions and answers are scheduled on June 15 and Sept. 14, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Business transition readiness

The U.S. Small Business Administration is holding a webinar designed to help business owners begin creating their own paths to more successful transition outcomes. The webinar is June 2 from 11-11:30 a.m. Mountain Standard Time and is free. The presenter is Alistair Stewart, the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center (MMEC) Senior Business Advisor for Bozeman and Southwest Montana. The seminar is for business owners contemplating a change of control, this session will introduce key concepts, such as what transition readiness is, why it matters, and how to improve both personal and business outcomes. Mental Wellness Basics

The Whitefish Community Foundation will host a free seminar on mental wellness basics on June 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northwest Montana HIstory Museum, 124 Second Ave East, Kalispell. The workshop, led by Gaelen Engler and Sara Boilen of Sweetgrass Psychology, is designed to teach people what they never learned in school about the basics of how to feel okay, build resilience, and develop the capacity for coping with difficulty when it comes their way. The 90-minute presentation will help participants learn what mental wellness is, how to achieve and maintain mental wellness, and how to support others in that process. Information about resources in the community will also be included.
