WTC holds Black Curtain auditions

| November 3, 2022 12:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for the Black Curtain Theatre production “Church and State” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Arrive early to fill out an audition application, waiver form, and review the script. Enter at the north side of the building.

Three days before his bid for re-election — and in the wake of another school shooting — U.S. Sen. Charles Whitmore has a life-altering crisis of faith, triggering an off-the-cuff comment to a Twitter-savvy blogger that sends his entire campaign into a tailspin. The senator's devout wife and liberal campaign manager try desperately to contain the damage, but in a country where religion influences politics and politics have become a religion, how do you stay true to yourself? A timely and fast-paced story that was nominated for Best New Play in 2017, “Church and State” is simultaneously funny, heartbreaking, and uplifting.

The cast includes one man and one woman, ages 40s and older, one man and one woman, ages 20s and older, and one man and one woman, any age to play multiple roles and read stage directions. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided. The script is available at local public libraries.

Jake Carr is the director. As a Black Curtain show, the actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. There will be approximately nine rehearsals and one technical rehearsal on Nov. 18. There are two performances over one weekend on Nov. 19 and 20.
